The Gruffalo party

This party was for a gang of small animals and was great fun to organise! I put a tent up in the garden and laid a picnic table with a brown tablecloth, loads of pine cones and conkers with a few pheasant feathers and butterflies for colour. The toadstools are made from mini chocolate muffins with a fondant icing covering. Outside the tent was decorated with various images from the story with simple cardboard cutouts, more pine cones and conkers (a great walk in the woods the week before!). Party games were simple and fun! Hunt the Gruffalo where we hid all the parts from the story around the garden and the children had to make their Gruffalo to win, Pin the purple prickle on the Gruffalo and "Mouse says" (which is basically Simon says) so for example the mouse calls out "mouse says stomp like a gruffalo, flap like an owl" etc and if he doesn't say mouse first then you shouldn't move!
The gruffalo cave

and the nut was good!

Snake and his log pile house

The party planner!

Made it to the finale!

We fed the small animals on roasted fox ( roast pork), knobbly knees (roast potatoes), poisonous warts (peas) followed by Gruffalo crumble (apple crumble) and owl ice cream (vanilla) which went down very well and was a nice change from the usual party food.

Can I just point out that no real animals were harmed in the production of the party!!!
